Physical
Description: Gnomes are a race akin to dwarves, but are much smaller
in both height and girth. They stand from about 3.5 to 4 feet high,
but with significantly larger noses than dwarves. Most gnomes have
white hair, except for the svirfnebli (or deep gnomes) which have
no hair at all, and have dark tan skin. Gnomes are more magical creatures
than dwarves.
Attitude: Gnomes are a jolly bunch, with lively and sly senses
of humor. They have a love of living things as well as finely wrought
jewelry and gems, since gnomes spend much of the time mining for gems
and compete in methods of gem polishing and cutting. Their diminutive
stature has made them suspicious of the larger races (elves, humans,
and southrons), and are sly and conservative with those they do not
know and trust. This however does not keep them from being inquisitive
and curious fellows.
Whereabouts: Gnomes are especially difficult to find throughout
the Empire, being so reclusive. A few gnomes are hermits, but a small
settlement of Svirfneblin, or deep gnomes, has been found recently
in the caverns below Thyatia. There are also rumors of a Svirfneblin
city deep in the underdark.
Racial Abilities: Gnomes are very intelligent creatures and
filled with magical ability. As such they can memorize spells much
quicker than other races. Their small size hinders them from carrying
heavy loads.
